On January 3rd, 2018, two vulnerability reports were jointly released by researchers from Google Project Zero, Graz University of Technology, and Cyberus Technology. The released reports reveal critical hardware vulnerabilities in commonly deployed computer microprocessors; these vulnerabilities are known as Spectre and Meltdown. In normal operation, a computer’s operating system will not allow one program to access memory being used by another running program. By exploiting Spectre and Meltdown, an attacker can steal data from memory from those protected areas of memory.
